The Elephanta Caves are sculpted caves situated on Elephanta Island located in Mumbai Harbour approx. 10 Kms east of Mumbai in the indian state of Maharastra.
The cave are rock cut dated between 5 th and 8th centuries,the caves are cut from solid rocks, the caves were renovated in 1970s and was designated a UNESCO World heritage Site in 1987.The cave is called the Shiva cave is 27 mtrs square in a hall. There is a charge of Rs.10 for adults and Rs5 for Kids.At the entrance of the park, you have to pay an entrance fee of Rs.10 for Indian citizens and Rs. 250 for foreign nationals.
How to get There:
To get to Elephanta Caves, you will need to go to the Gateway of India in the Mumbai city. From Here, get the tickets for the boat or ferry. It will take one hour to reach the island by sea. The tickets are available at the entrance of gateway.The caves are off-visit on Mondays.
